Abstract
The study of compliance and side effects on the usage of metered dose inhaler among asthmatic patients has been conducted. The questionnaire was constructed, which consists of 19 questions used as a research instrument. The study involved 53 respondents that have been selected randomly among asthmatic patients in Hospital Tuanku Fauziah. The data were then analyzed using Statistical Packaged for Social Studies (SPSS) software version 17 to determine the percentage of respondent based on the answer chosen and the relationship of the questions. The results show that patients’ knowledge about metered dose inhaler influenced patients’ compliance towards metered dose inhaler. Factors that influence patients’ compliance towards metered dose inhaler have been discovered during the research, which are patients’ age, educational level, years of having asthma, number of inhaler used, and the ease of use of metered dose inhaler. Majority of respondents experience dry mouth and their metered dose inhaler leaves bad taste in mouth.
