Quantitative study: diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia knowledge among patients attending Outpatient Pharmacy, Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB), Alor Setar

The level of awareness regarding diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia (DHL) among public has been explored. This study focused on how much the public knowledge on DHL that gives the good outcomes. Our study was done at Outpatient Pharmacy Department in Hospital SultanahBahiyah, Kedah. Our study subject was the visitors who come to the outpatient pharmacy department of Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah from September, 2014 to January, 2015. They were chosen randomly and then we gave a set of questionnaire for them to answer. The focus of this study is to relate their demographic factors which are ages, gender, race, level of education, and whether they are suffering from DHL diseases with the level of DHL knowledge. From the 96 filled questionnaires we manage to collect, we go through all of it and key in the data into SPSS version 18.0 software to get the result in table form and also graph form. Out of 96 respondents, 61 respondents (63.5%) have fairly good score. Expectedly, most of themare not really aware of the interrelation of Diabetes, Hypertension and Hyperlipidemia. With the results of four respondents have “Good” score implied that the respondents do no really know about these diseases. The outcome from this study will be fully used soon on how to improve public knowledge about DHL disease hence improving their lifestyle.
