Abstract
Medication return is simply a great concept towards the health world. As the name implies, the actions of returning the unused, unwanted and also expired pharmaceutical products obtained either from over-the-counter medicines or from any health departments to the nearest hospital for proper disposal. The objectives of this study are to identify the most returned medication classified by it five major classes, the trend of medication return, to calculate the cost of medication return by drug classes and making conclusion regarding the problem in medication return. This study will be conducted by first collecting the returned medication by patients to Outpatient Pharmacy Department (OPD) from June 2017 until November 2017. The amount of returned medication are written in “Buku Rekod Pemulangan Ubat OPD 2017” by assistant pharmacist in charge. The medication will be divided into three classifications which are well or non- expired, expired and drugs from other facilities. The cost of the returned medication will then be calculated based on cost price from Master Catalogue Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail. A total of 183 052 medicines were returned from June until November 2017 from five major drug classes that were chosen. The average of 30 508 medicines were returned in a month. In conclusion, this study is conducted to increase awareness to pharmacist and healthcare professional about the factors, effects and the way to overcome the problem related to the medication returned.
