Abstract

The aims of this project are to know the extent of the patients’ knowledge about diabetes mellitus and how they manage their disease. Furthermore, we also wanted to know about the perceptions of the patients about diabetes mellitus, its medicines and medicines’ complications. The objectives of this study, to determine the percentage of socio demographics of the patients and the percentage of two types of diabetes mellitus which is type 1 and type 2, to determine the statistically relationship between the level of knowledge about sign of diabetes mellitus and their education level ,to determine the statistically relationship between the level of knowledge about symptom of low blood glucose level and their education level ,to determine the association between the perception whether diabetes mellitus can be recover or not with the working sector (health and non-health) When experiments are conducted we asked patients about their social demographic, such as, age, weight, race, education level and working sector, their opinions on facts or concepts and the recent studies about diabetes mellitus, and also their opinions about their perception in medicines using in diabetes mellitus, such as, the perception about the efficacy of modern and traditional medicines in treating the disease. In the conclusions, we can conclude that almost all diabetic patients in Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim is having type 2 diabetes mellitus. Moreover, there is statistically not significant relationship between education level with level of knowledge about sign of diabetes mellitus is. While, patients’ understanding towards diabetes mellitus with level of knowledge of symptom low blood glucose level statistically not significant. Furthermore, there is association patients’ perception on whether diabetes mellitus can be recovered or not with their working sector.
