Abstract

In this study, the rheological behaviour of the biochar-glycerol-water fuel emulsion has been studied. The coconut pulp was chosen as a biochar sample that was produced by pyrolysis. The pyrolysis was conducted at various temperature and residence time. Different value of parameters were used to analyse the highest carbon and energy content in the biochar. Pyrolysis was operated at temperature 200°C to 500°C with residence time was 2 hours to 6 hours. The biochar that has highest carbon content was selected and mixed with glycerol-water mixture. The rheological behaviour of the homogenous mixture of biochar-glycerol-water emulsion fuel was studied by using the Bohlin CVO rheometer. The viscosity, shear rate and shear stress were studied from the data of rheometer. From this study, the biochar-glycerol-water fuel emulsion can be classified as Non-Newtonian fluid due to it non-linear relation between shear rate and shear stress. It was a thixotropic fluid due to the decreased of viscosity with constant shear rate over time.
