Abstract
Middle school libraries in Malaysia are usually rigid and have certain guidelines and rules which pupils need to abide when accessing its facilities. Some commonly known rules include i) no eating or drinking in the premise and ii) no loud talking or discussions. ‘Perpustakaan Kafe’ or the Library café is originally designed as a conducive space for pupils in SMK Seri Pulai Perdana to revise, learn and make study groups with lesser boundaries. They are allowed to talk and discuss while snacking as they are studying. In addition, the library café sells a variety of light meals such as pastas, sandwiches and pastries as well as hot/cold drinks. This does not only attracts the pupils to go to the library, but also generates income for the school’s resource center to organize many other programs. After more than two years of service, the Library Café is a hit with the pupils especially after school sessions. They like to do study groups, revise and meet up with their friends safely without needing to go anywhere else. The first middle school in Johor with a Library Café.
