Abstract
Penicillin is one of the the greatest innovation in medical and health care. It is usually use in the treatment of infectious diseases caused by bacteria, such as ear infection. It can be taken orally or via injection to treat diseases. It derived from Penicillium fungi and has saved millions of people since its initial discovery in 1928 by Alexander Fleming. The objective is to assess pharmacy staffs and trainees knowledge about therapeutic use and side effect of penicillin. 150 questionnaires have been distributed to pharmacy staff and pharmacy trainees in Out-patient department and In-patient in Malacca General Hospital from August 2017 to December 2017. From the data, we use to evaluate the knowledge of penicillin among pharmacy staff and trainee. Pharmacy trainees have the knowledge that penicillin has high therapeutic uses and high side while pharmacy staffs have the knowledge that penicillin has low therapeutic use and low side effect. Our research gives us the chance to compare the knowledge of each participant on penicillin. We only focused on therapeutic uses and side effects of penicillin.
