Abstract

The extension of green chemistry in the synthesis of nanoparticles with use fruit, plant, bacteria, fungi etc. has become a green attention today. The synthesis of Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) via green sol-gel method by using banana peels (Jackfruit banana) extract (BPE). This method was carried due to their eco-friendly, less time consumption, cost effective and simplest method. Moreover, BPE act as stabilizing and reducing agent. This synthesis is to determine the crystallite and particles size of ZnO NPs while the pH different is to identify optimum pH in synthesis ZnO NPs using BPE. In this synthesis, banana peels was extract with ultrapure water at 70℃ for 30 minutes and 1000rpm. After that the synthesis of ZnO NPs was synthesized using Zinc acetate dehydrate (C₄H₄Zn∙2H₂O) as the precursor with different value of pH at 70℃ for 1hr and 400rpm. The precipitate was obtained and dried it at 40℃ for overnight. ZnO NPs using BPE were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Red (FT-IR) Spectroscopy, UV-visible spectrometer (UV-Vis) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Brunaner-Emmett-Teller (BET). FT-IR spectra were recorded to identify the functional group involved in this synthesis and at the stretch 350-390 cm-1, it indicates the present of ZnO bond. The UV-Vis spectrometer was recorded to observe the absorption peak, the highest absorption peak at 367 nm and the band gap was 3.38 eV. XRD analysis showed the ZnO nanoparticles formed to have hexagonal wurtzite structure and the crystallite size between 16 to 28 nm. BET analysis showed that the surface area of ZnO NPs between 15 to 53 m2/g and the average particles size of ZnO NPs between 20 to 66 nm. In this synthesized of ZnO NPs, the optimum pH at pH 12.
