A survey on knowledge, practices and perception of methadone drug intake in Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ), Terengganu

Methadone awareness can be portrayed as knowing even slightly aware of the fact about methadone. Realizing the existence of the methadone can be defined as knowing the importance of methadone towards people. Methadone is used in the treatment to the patients who experienced either heroine or morphine addiction. Methadone does not make the addiction problem vanished completely, however it is used to reduce the addict and dependence towards the opioid drug; heroin and morphine. This study focuses on knowledge,perceptions and practices among patients who are under Methadone Replacement Therapy (MRT). Our study was conducted in Methadone Clinic of Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Terengganu. Our study subject was the patients that have registered at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah under Methadone Replacement Therapy. They were chosen randomly and were asked for their cooperation to answer the questionnaire after they taking methadone syrup with pharmacist. This study is used to relate their demographic factors which are ages, gender, their background, besides their knowledge, practices and perceptions. We have collected 50 filled questionnaires and key in the data into IBM SPSS Statistics version 22 and Microsoft Excel 2010 software to get the result in table and graph form. Only 4% of them taking more than 120 mg per day of methadone dose in their treatment. 90% of them agree that methadone is one of their ways to cure their addictive in morphine or heroin. Hopefully this research will be used by healthcare professional to enhance the quality of patient treatment and increase the awareness program related with Methadone Replacement Therapy.
