Abstract
Transition to parenting is widely believed as one of the most challenging odyssey particularly for new parent. Further concerns are pinpointed to parents with visual impairment (PWVI) who enduring their first-time parenting involvement particularly without prior record of child-rearing, lack of supports and training on how to perform parenting tasks, and exactly on the same ship as other novice non-disabled parents. The absence of accessible information relevant to childcare, together within an inappropriate format and insufficient detail for visual challenged people, consequently lead PWVI to be at fault until confirmed guiltless when it came to perception around their parenting capability. Conceding to these disputes, the “prototaip manual tahun pertama bayi: panduan penjagaan bagi ibu bapa kurang upaya penglihatan” is recognized as a most possible answer in creating wellinformed environment to help PWVI execute their infant-rearing responsibilities. To accomplish this aim, this complete manual will be organized by topics and provides resourceful informational monthly guide that precisely describes everything essentials for the parents to know about that earliest year with infant. The manual will benefit every expecting, newly and existing PWVI through practical and alternative techniques of touching and hearing, other than included with special sections on infant-care experiences shared by other PWVI. Furthermore, other than designed with Braille, this manual also will be uniquely embedded with audio and accessible reading tactile images. The audio options will offer added understanding, for instant by listening to real sound of infant’s crying cues, while reader as well could be able to identify the images with their fingers. In conclusion, the manual will serve as an information support in facilitating the PWVI to accomplish their infant rearing, other than to provide positive experiences and self-assurance for them to be an effective parent. This is the first and original infant care manual dedicated and designed for parents with visual impairment (PWVI). With clear guidelines of infant care, this manual is unique as it gives details on using alternative techniques of touching and hearing that is customize accordingly for PWVI.
