Abstract

Mathematics is a base for qualitative mastering of all science subjects. In Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), mathematics is a compulsory subject for students taking any science courses. However, the low achievement in mathematics subjects, especially in calculus, requires detailed investigation. In view of this, this study aims to analyse some of the common mistakes displayed by the students in grasping the basic integration concept, which is one of the topics in calculus. This experimental study was based on a six question test on basic integration topics given to 75 students. It is hoped that the findings are able to provide some insights and ideas pertaining to the common mistakes done by the students in integration topics and at the same time can improve results in the mathematics subjects.
