Teaching statistical concepts using interactive applets

Ab Ghani Hilmi, Zulkifli (2009) Teaching statistical concepts using interactive applets. Other. Universiti Teknologi MARA.

Abstract

This paper discusses the use of interactive applets in explaining two inferential statistics concepts. By using simulation, that is, imitating a real world situation, students can take samples from artificial population and analyse them to discover statistical properties and theoretical backgrounds. Applets have the ability to make students become actively involved in the learning process, thereby, learning by doing without going out of the classroom. The objectives are to facilitate and enhance conceptual understanding, thereby, producing students with statistical literacy and thinking.
