Tech-class: Geofencing-driven attendance management system

Abstract

Traditional manual systems are prone to errors and inefficiencies, making accurate and effective attendance tracking a crucial challenge for educational institutions. To solve these problems, this project proposes developing a Geofencing-driven attendance management system for Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Machang, Kelantan. The system monitors students’ attendance in real-time as they are contained within assigned classroom limitations by the geofencing technology to avoid fake attendance. The solution is accessible and adaptable since it uses mobile devices instead of costly hardware. To improve security and accountability, the proposed system integrates institutional ID match with real-time notifications. This guarantees that the only students marked as present are those who are physically present within the classroom's boundaries. The geofence-based technology has major advantages over current attendance systems, such as manual and biometric approaches, in terms of accuracy, affordability, and scalability. By automating the attendance process, it improves operational efficiency and reduces administrative workload. This project's main goals are to increase the accuracy of attendance records and offer a user-friendly, effective solution. Students and educators will take part in user testing to evaluate the system's usability and effectiveness. Feedback will be gathered to measure user satisfaction, system performance, and possible areas for development. Once everything is regarded, the proposed system aims to support academic integrity, operational effectiveness, and a more efficient method of managing attendance at UiTM Machang, Kelantan.
