Abstract
Although instructors have engaged different styles and methods of teaching, most student learning devoids of real context of experience. This paper looks into the possibility of shifting the usual teaching and learning approach by contextualizing the process through the incorporation of Community Service Learning (CSL). CSL differs from the usual practice of community service as it is structured and mandated in the curriculum. The writer posits that through the contextualization and incorporation, the learning and acquisition of soft skills can take place in a more meaningful manner. Learning becomes internalised as students learn, develop and apply their learned skills and knowledge on real life situations. At the same time, students develop attitudes, values and behaviours that enable them not only to prepare for future employment but also address the needs of the communities.
