Abstract

The second phase of the Government Transformation Programme roadmap (GTP Roadmap 2.0), Reducing Crime NKRA (National Key Result Area) initiatives have aligned the house break-ins and vehicle thefts are the (2) two of key focus points that will be focus by the Governments to combat seriously. The Government has planned various safety and crime prevention programmes aim to combat crime. According to ASP Supt Fatimah Abdul Hamid, house break-ins made up 18% of the crime index last year and vehicle thefts over 40%. Although the GTP Roadmap 2.0 have address the people's negative perception on crime when the figures had seen a reduction and this have pushed the Government to focus on house break-ins because it could lead to kidnapping, raping, murdering and traumatic. All initiatives seems to be more practical to be apply on the big city, contrary, the rural areas were left behind probably due to the society that majority resided by the elderly and naturally were physically frail and fragile and did not contribute much in the programmes. However, the rural areas could contribute crime rate to rise if the programmes fail to be practically implemented in the neighbourhood. Along with the serious impact of crime towards the elderly, therefore, the aim of this research is to describe the factor that lead to house breaking crime involving elderly in the rural area and the objectives of this research are to verify latent and salient needs of the elderly so that an innovative solution in preventing house breaking crime could be propose and a guideline as the safety solution for the elderly could be establish. Descriptive research will be use to describe 'what exist' with respect to variables or conditions in a situation and preliminary data will be collect using police database as to delineate research problem. The outcome expected from this research are a guideline to establish preventive methods towards house breaking crime and a concept design of a product as a safety solution for the elderly.
