Abstract
One of the social institutions in Acehnese society that is difficult to separate in daily life is the culture of drinking coffee in coffee shops or ‘Keude Kuphi’. This has created a local wisdom for the people of Aceh in socializing and interacting in the Third Space. Coffee shop users used to be visited only by men, but now this is no longer the case, because all groups of men and women, from adults to children, often go to coffee shops. This situation explains that coffee shops are not only a place to stop by to get information and enjoy a cup of coffee, but as a meeting place with various other activities. Therefore, along with the times, coffee shops have become one of the factors of social change in society towards the adaptation of spatial design in particular. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method, which focuses on discussing the space design of traditional coffee shops to modern coffee shops. Thus, it is expected that this research can be known that the transformation of the Third Space in the design of the coffee shop space, has a role as a reflection of social change in Aceh, especially Banda Aceh City.
