The effects of eurycoma longifolia and polyalthia bullata in body weight and male reproductive organs: testes and epididymis

Eurycoma longifolia and Polyalthia bullata are Asian plants that mainly used for aphrodisiac purpose. Aphrodisiac is a substance that has the ability to enhance sexual libido either through adult performance or sexual organs. It is included in vitamins, beverages, food, minerals and synthetic substances. This study was aimed to carry out a research on the effect of Eurycoma longifolia and Polyalthia bullata in male reproductive organs specifically on testes and epididymis in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. 400mgkg-1 of E.longifolia and P.bullata extract were feed orally at time exposure of 14 days. Purified distilled water was used for the control group vehicle in this study. The body weight was measured and recorded daily to evaluate the changes throughout the treatment duration. The testes and epididymis were weighed at the day 15 and the data were analysed using IBM SPSS Version 21. E. longifolia of 400mgkg-1 shows greater influenced in increased the body weight while, 400mgkg-1 of P.bullata decreased the SD rat body weight. Right testis of rats received E.longifolia 400mgkg-1 was significantly declined by comparing with control group. For epididymis, right epididymis of 400mgkg-1P.bullata treated rat shows a significant decreased when compared with control. It can be concluded that E. longifolia and P. bullata extract altered body weight and reproductive organ included testes and epididymis.
