Abstract

Several objectives in our research project were achieved. The objective was to observe the crystallinity structure of lignocellulosic material before and after pretreatment with ionic liquid EMIMAc, EMIMCl and BMIMCl, to analyze the optimization of pretreatment by varying the concentration of ionic liquid, the speed of Bioshake (rpm) and temperature and to observe the structure of lignocellulosic biomass by using FTIR, XRD and TGA. Raw material used is Gigantochloa albociliata (buluh madu) and Leucaena Leucocephala (petai belalang). Raw material was prepared by grinding by using IKA grinder to obtain standardized particle size. The grinded raw material is then sieved by using sieve shaker to obtain size of particle 125µm. Dilution of each ionic liquid was done for concentration of 30 w/w%, 50 w/w%, 70 w/w% and 90 w/w%. Parameter was varied for temperature, concentration and speed (rpm). Amount of lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) in 15 mL falcon tube is 0.25 g. 5mL of ionic liquid is pipetted into falcon tube. Then, pretreatment process was run based on tabulated parameter with fixed time, 3 hour. Washing process was done for four times for each tube to remove ionic liquid. The LCB is then dried in the oven for one day and it being analyzed by using method; FTIR and XRD. The result for FTIR analysis shows that conditions preferable were depends on type of LCB and ionic-liquid used. The lowest transmittance shows the higher amount of cellulose recovered. A result from analysis by XRD does not show any significance pattern or trend from CrI values. But it is proved that crystallinity is reduced by pretreatment.
