Abstract
The objectives of the study are to prepare the eggshells as adsorbents and to study the effect of dosage on batch adsorption process. The eggshells were washed and treated with NaOH solution before dried in the oven. Then the eggshells were calcined at two different temperature. Initial concentration of 10 ppm of safranin-o were treated using three different adsorbents at three different dosage. The percentage of dye removal for the adsorbents are; 82.3%, 90.9%, and 88.9% for 1g, 2g, and 3g of TEUC; 73.8%, 72.8%, and 83.6% for 1g, 2g, and 3g of TE400; 82.8%, 76.7%, and 88.6% for 1g, 2g, and 3g of TE500. The highest percentage removal of dye is by using 2g of TEUC, which is uncalcined eggshells. This is because the positively charge dye will adsorb to the positively charged surface. Thus, NaOH treated eggshells can be used to remove safranin-o from aqueous solution.
