Abstract
There was a growing concern from the public on the quality of wastewater since it was likely to contaminate from various organic compounds. The highly toxic of organic contaminant had caused problems to human health and the environment. Hence it was compulsory to do a research on how to degrade the recalcitrant compound from the wastewater by a method proposed in this research study. This research study comes with two objectives which were to study the effect of H2O2 and UV light on the degradation of 2, 4, 6-TCP and also to optimize the efficiency of the combination of both H2O2 with the UV light (H2O2/UV) on the degradation of 2, 4, 6-TCP. The method proposed was by using the presence of a supporting agent which was H2O2 solution together with the presence of UV light. Generally, the combination of H2O2/UV was one of the technique by AOPs. Two different initial concentrations of 2,4,6-TCP were prepared; 30 ppm and 60ppm. The concentrations of the H2O2 solution were varied to three different concentrations; 5%w/v, 15%w/v and 25%w/v from the 30%w/v H2O2 solution and were added to each of the 2,4,6-TCP concentrations. Each sample were prepared in 25mL glass bottles and were exposed under UV light for 6 hours. The samples were analyzed by using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). From the work, the reduction obtained for 30ppm 2,4,6-TCP was 100% degradation. Meanwhile, for 60ppm 2,4,6-TCP the reductions were between the range of 93.84% to 99.62%.
