Abstract
Throughout history, waqf had provided for many essential services to society such as health, education and municipal services. There has been renewed interest to revive the institution of waqf and unleash its potential to contribute more significantly towards economic and social development. The study aims to assess the current level of understanding of waqf principles among Muamalat students in Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Kelantan, examine the factors influencing their comprehension of waqf concepts, and propose strategies to enhance the practice of waqf among this student population. The study employs a quantitative approach, utilizing a survey questionnaire to collect data from a sample of Muamalat students in Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Kelantan. The findings indicate that the students have a high level of understanding and a positive perception of waqf. Factors influencing their comprehension include exposure to waqf courses, availability of information, religious beliefs, academic background, and perceptions of waqf's relevance and complexity. The study also highlights the importance of integrating waqf-related courses into the curriculum, providing access to resources, organizing events, and promoting waqf for sustainable development and poverty reduction. Overall, the research underscores the potential of waqf to address contemporary challenges and contribute to sustainable socio-economic development, suggesting that educational and policy frameworks should align with these insights to harness the transformative potential of waqf for societal benefit.
