Abstract

‘Rempit’ issues recently have become a serious social problem that threatens our society, government and country. The study is identifying the factors that may contribute the youngsters’ involvement in ‘rempit’ activities at Melaka Tengah area. The factors influence consists of family’s factors, peer’s factors, personality’s factors, socio-economics’ factors and educational factors. The involvement of youngster in ‘rempit’ have been defined as those are directly involved and as an audience. A convenience sampling of 94 respondents consist of youngster that involved in a ‘rempit’ activities were answered the questionnaires in order to gather their opinion and perception towards the factors involvement. They were 78 of them are male and 16 of them are female, and the majority are Malay and students. The main findings of this study indicates that peer’s factor and personality’s factor are become the main factors that influence youngster’s involvement in ‘rempit’. Last but not least, there are some recommendation proposed by the researcher in response towards the Tempits’ issue in the Melaka Tengah which comprise law enforcement, parents and family’s role and educational role in order to control the peers’ influence and to develop the good youngster’s identity. As a concluding remark, we hope that this study can be a general guideline for other researchers, government, general public as well as the students in enhancing this study to pursue beneficial result.
