Abstract

Walking canes have a rich history that shows how they have changed from being useful tools to status symbols and essential mobility assistance for the elderly. However, challenges to accessibility for people with disabilities still exist, highlighting the necessity of inclusive solutions in public areas. The goal of including integrated seating in canes is to lessen accidents and increase comfort while walking. Push-button mechanisms and LED lighting in contemporary folding canes provide security and convenience while supporting initiatives to improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities throughout the day and at night. The user has reported several types of problems including difficulty in Folding and Unfolding, do not offer integrated seat options and limited visibility in Low-light conditions. The objectives to accomplish include design an innovative folding cane with built-in seat using SolidWorks and fabricate a prototype of the folding cane with built-in seat with LED lighting as a proof of concept. This project's methodologies cover several important areas. Firstly, the design incorporates sophisticated LED lighting features, such as automated brightness control and settings to preserve battery life. The integration of basic lighting and the cane's durability and stability are prioritised for increased safety and the study explores the implementation of movable seating, ergonomic handle grips, and better weight distribution. Finally, the project's methodologies include incorporating advanced LED lighting with battery-saving features and automatic brightness control, ensuring durability, stability, and basic safety lighting, and exploring enhancements in weight distribution, movable seating, and ergonomic handle grips.
