Abstract

This report presents the performance evaluation of the 10 Gbps system using 4channel x 2.5 Gbps data speed and 1-channel x 10 Gbps data speed with and without the Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifier (EDFA). Comparison between these two systems is made according to their Q-factor and Bit Error Rate (BER) that can be extracted from the Eye diagram. Theoretically, the system is better if using the lower data speed and with the optical amplifier such as EDFAs. From the simulation, we can see the effect of EDFA as optical amplifier to enhance the performance of the systems and it shows the best ways to implement 10 Gbps system is the 4-channel x 2.5 Gbps data speed system.
