Abstract

Over the years, politics has certainly evolved so much. Yet, the basics remain the same. For some, however, they may find it has become too elusive to understand, making the need to have a proper grasp of the fundamentals of politics more important than ever. Taking this into account, guided by the syllabus issued by the Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), this book is written in such a way that it will help readers and students, especially at the beginner's level, to master the meanings and the applications of the terms and concepts commonly associated with government and politics. Accordingly, the major part of the book deals with straightforward discussion of the types of government and the roles of its three key components i.e. executive, legislative and judiciary. It is followed by the deliberation over social organizations that make up an integral part of polities such as political parties, pressure groups and election system. An overview of the Islamic perspective on government and politics serves as the closing chapter. It is essential as it provides readers with the foreground and background of government and politics in Islamic history.
