A taxonomy model for university’s intellectual output: case study of UiTM Research Innovation Business Unit (RIBU) / Andra Israh Ab Halim

Intellectual Output (IO) of a university is often neglected by society whereas it actually possesses a great capacity of the university’s knowledge produced by researchers. Knowledge preservation is important for the community to be able to access, utilize, improve and expand the knowledge at the same time. There is no specific technique to preserve knowledge, but with the existence of ontological and taxonomy model will help in modelling the effective knowledge. The aim of the project is to identify all the types of university’s intellectual output (IO), to develop a taxonomy model for university’s IO, and to provide an empirical support of the taxonomy model produced. This project involves qualitative research where Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Research Innovation Business Unit (RIBU) is appointed as the case study. The research design consists of three stages which are preliminary study and problem identification, taxonomy development and taxonomy empirical support. It involves interview and documentation review methods to produce a university’s IO taxonomy model. The project then resulted to two main taxonomies but at the end it only focuses on taxonomy that involves innovation, invention and design product produced by UiTM members that consists of staff and students. As for future work, it is suggested to expand the research to the other universities as well so that more IO will be identified and will improve the taxonomy model too.
