Abstract

The ease of access to technology has meant that over the years, piracy has become more rampant. Piracy is an activity that carries a much greater threat to any economy, social and cultural well-being than generally realized by the consumer. Moreover, it is an activity where short-term gains are achieved at the expense of long-term disadvantages. Since, the trend of piracy is increased now days. (Haque, Khatibi & Rahman, 2009) This could mean that downloading a movie for personal use; even if it is not meant to be distributed or sold, can still be considered to be an illegal movie download. Furthermore. There have been issues in which movies that have yet been publicly released in the cinema are leaked will have serious legal consequences if ever apprehended. The existing of the illegal websites that allows people to get the movies by free of charge. Perhaps the lesser-known industry is the illegal file-sharing industry. The suppliers upload illegal copies of movies and the consumers download these movies using a technology called torrenting. The upload and download process is done on two-way platforms called file-sharing sites. These file-sharing sites are essentially the major “firms" within this industry. Facilitating content upload and distribution. These sites are organized by a small private group of owners or administrators and with the exception of top sites: they are usually not very profitable. There are an endless number of sites that host a file-sharing platform. (Daren Zhang, 2015).
