The distribution of Dipterocarpus spp. in UiTM Jengka forest reserve (UiTM JFR)

A study was conducted at UiTM Jengka Forest Reserve (UiTM JFR) to determine the distribution of Dipterocarpus spp. which having diameter more than 20 cm at breast height Lines that involved were Base Line 1: Line 1 to 5 and Line 11 to 15 with a total of 10 lines. The study area is along the selected lines with 5m to the right and 5 m to the left. A total of 43 individuals were recorded in this study. Four species of Dipterocarpus were identified Dipterocarpus verrucosus (Keruing merah), Dipterocarpus cornutus (Keruing gombang), Dipterocarpus crinitus (Keruing mempelas) and Dipterocarpus hasseltii (Keruing ropol) with 21, 8, 8 and 6 individuals respectively. The most dominant species is Dipterocarpus verrucosus (Keruing merah) with 49%. It was followed by Dipterocarpus cornutus (Keruing gombang), Dipterocarpus crinitus (Keruing mempelas) and Dipterocarpus hasseltii (Kerning ropol) with 18.5%, 18.5% and 14% respectively. For diameter breast height (dbh), a total of 21 individuals were recorded as mature tree that having a dbh more than 45cm. Then it was followed by premature tree (dbh 30-45 cm) and big pole tree (dbh 20-29cm) with 12 and 11 individuals respectively.
