Abstract
Djong pavilion is a traditional Malay boat pavilion that serves as a retreat for the public. The main purpose of the structure is to accommodate the student’s lifestyle while reliving the history of the glorious Malacca’s empire. The leveled chengal floor provides the feeling of being on board. While the main attraction is the ‘wayang pacak’, that is the traditional way of watching a movie back in the day, there are plenty more area to be explored. That is the work area which takes the form of a yet another traditional transportation known as “sampan”. The structure not only provides a space for students to interact and communicate, it is also an experience of being on board that made it all worthwhile. Another main component is the observation tower that acts as the agriculture area. This is where students attempt to take care of the plants by themselves. This is a way to encourage and teach students about the importance of green planting. In a nutshell, as a way to maintain the sustainability of the structure, all the hardwood plank are reclaimed to avoid having detrimental effect on the environment
