The development of Songket recommender ( S-REC) web based application using knowledge based filtering / NorFarahTasha Mustiran

The Songket motifs found in Malay textile art depict the journey and the history of the Malay people in creating their cultural identity. Songket is a Malay word which means to bring out or to pull a thread from a background cloth or to weave using gold and silver thread. Historically, the songket indicates a symbol of royalty, the rulers of the people in Peninsular Malaysia. For tourism purposes, the songket becomes one of the Malay symbols for tourism-related product representing multiracial Malaysia in the eyes of the world. The type of thread that are used is for example gold thread, silver thread and metallic thread. Survey method are divided into two categories which are interview and questionnaire. From the questionnaire conducted it can be concluded that majority of the user did not know the history making a songket. The objective of doing this system are to identify the requirement of development of Songket Recommender, to design the development of Songket Recommender based on requirement gathered such as interview that have been made and lastly, to develop of Songket Recommender based on the design constructed that have been finalize in storyboard and user interface. For this S-REC project system will involve three (3) users of the system which are the National Textile Museum, Researcher and also Society/Public User. Based on the interview session that have been conducted, there are a few problems that can be conclude to overcome this problem. For example, in this era children do not interest learning traditional history by using brochure or template because of the extensive use of technology such as a smartphone and computer. To overcome this problem, Songket Recommender System is develop using web based platform. Combination of multimedia elements such as sound, image and text makes the user more interesting and attractive. Future works suggested are add more educational games into the application so user can learn and play the games to gain the knowledge.
