Abstract

The research was done to identify the effects of recycling on pulp and paper properties using oil palm fronds from organosolv pulp. Four cycles have been done as the basis of this study. The reduction in mechanical properties of pulp and paper has been observed, especially at the first stage of the recycling. It was due to the irreversible shrinkage of fibers or known as horrification. The result show the increasing in freeness but reduction in tearing index, burst index and bulk.
