Abstract

Mangrove forest is one of the unique forests that have variety of species of plant and need to survive in salty conditions. The mangrove forests in Pahang are developed by strong tidal action. Cherating, Balok, Kuantan, Peramu, Sungai Miang, Sungai Bebar, Rompin, Endau and Pontian are the areas that have mangrove forest in state of Pahang. The distribution mangrove area in Pahang is 2387.15 hectares. There are four types of mangrove forest. There are Avicennia-Sonneratia forests, Rhizophora-Bruguiera forest, Dryland forest and Nypa forest. The dominants species of mangrove forest in Malaysia are Rhizophora, Avicennia, Bruguiera and Sonneratia. Mangrove forest gave benefit as buffer zones between the open ocean and the land. This not only protects the shores from damage, but also its many inhabitants-including humans.
