Abstract

Soda pulping is one of chemical pulping and basically OCC is made from kraft pulping. In this study, we determine paper properties from Petai Belalang with addition OCC. The purpose of this study is to determine suitability of using Petai Belalang as raw material. While OCC is to mixed with virgin pulp soda pulping from Petai Belalang. The cooking is done by using M.K digester at temperature 170°C for 3 and half hour. The paper
testing is followed by TAPPI standard to determine mechanical properties of paper. We separate paper by beating revolution. There 4 beating revolution, 0, 5000, 10000 and 15000. As a result, we get that graph paper properties is increasing and decreasing as increasing of beating revolution. These shows that paper is reach optimum point. When OCC is mix with virgin pulp from Petai Belalang is suitable to make box as corrugated medium in packaging industry.
