Abstract

Kabong is a town in Betong Division Sarawak, east Malaysia. It is situated nearby Saratok town. Mostly form for native Malay for fish village and famous of fish of "ikan terubok" (Toli shad) and also famous for "apong" (palm sugar). Kabong town has a strategic location and potential prospects to become a commercial center that serves as a distribution center for the surrounding area, because the town is located in Kuala Batang Krian and can become a major transit port. Kabong sub-district is one of the biggest Malay villages in Sarawak and has an area of 398.14 square kilometers. The distance from Saratok town is 63 km while from Sarikei is 85 km. Kabong sub-district can be reached by road which mean by land route. The main transportation for the people in Kabong area is buses, private van or private car. Kabong area as a whole has a population of 26 long house (lban) and 27 Malay villages. The total population of people in Kabong are approximately 17000 in 2014, of which 80% are Malays, 17% are lban, 2% are Chinese and 1 % are others.
