Abstract
According to Department of Labour Sarawak (n.d.), the Labour Department Sarawak was set up by the State Government of Sarawak on 26th July 1960 with six staffs. The first labour department established in Sarawak is the Labour Office Kuching, followed 10 other offices according to its division in Sarawak. Furthermore, the Director of Labour Sarawak, current position held by Mr. Jack Meredu Anak Ko is completely responsible to the Minister of Human Resources through the Secretary General on the administration of labour matters in Sarawak as stated in the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report 1962. The IGC Report 1962 was proposed before the formation of Malaysia was formed; consist of Federation of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore (American Society of International Law, 1963). Hence, the Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia’s jurisdiction includes the Department of Labour Sarawak aligned with the formation of Malaysia on 16th September 1963. The Employment Services Section of the Manpower Department and the Sarawak Labour Department was combined to align its power and jurisdiction parallel to the formation of Malaysia thus the name ‘Jabatan Buruh’ was changed to ‘Jabatan Tenaga Kerja Sarawak’ (Department ofLabour Sarawak) on the 1st July 2003.
