Abstract

The necessity for robust safety measures is increasingly recognized among individuals with disabilities, a group particularly vulnerable to falls and sudden movements. Traditional safety methodologies often fail to sufficiently cater to the unpredictable nature of such incidents, leading to a significant gap in effective injury prevention for these individuals. In response, the Safety Bubbly Jacket has been developed to bridge this gap by incorporating advanced technology with practical wearability. This innovative jacket is equipped with a state-of-the-art sensor system that detects early signs of imbalance or sudden movements. Upon detection, the jacket’s integrated airbag system promptly inflates to provide immediate cushioning and protection against potential injuries. The primary objective of this invention is to reduce both the frequency and severity of injuries, thereby enhancing safety and autonomy during daily activities and specialized sessions like physiotherapy. The novelty of the Safety Bubbly Jacket lies in its real-time sensing and response mechanisms, a proactive approach to fall prevention that sets a new standard in protective wearables for individuals with disabilities. By improving individual safety, the jacket also contributes to reducing healthcare costs associated with fall-related injuries and enhances the quality of life for both the individuals and their caregivers. This project not only addresses a crucial need within the disability community but also paves the way for broader societal impacts through enhanced safety and well-being.
