Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of using visual aids to enhance students vocabulary knowledge. The sample of the study included 30 pupils of Year 5 Abu Hurairah Class of Sekolah Kebangsaan Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu that were chosen based on a convenient sampling method. Questionnaires were distribute to get demographic information about the background of pupils and to access students’ perceived vocabulary learning difficulty. Next, pre-test and posttest were conducted after a period of intervention which was conducted to determine the effect of the visual aids on participants’ viocabulary knowledge. The researcher carried out ten lesson plan for the intervention experiment. The result of this research shows that vocabulary knowledge of the pupils increase from as low as 30% (pre-test) to a high of 80% (post-test). This study showed that the visual aids have successfully helped the students to enhance their English vocabulary knowledge.
