Abstract

This action research is conducted to determine the effectivness of using words attack method to enhance Year 5 pupil’s reading skill. Respondents of this research involved special needs students with reading disabilities from Sekolah Kebangsaan Dewan Besar. The respondents were targeted because they have been identified by the school as special needs students with reading difficulties. Data for the research were collected through questionnaire, interview, pre-test and post-test. Data from the interview and questionnaire showed students perceived reasons for reading difficulties. A Pre test was conducted to determine students’ level and the post test result showed that after intervention participants performance actually improved. The results showed that words attack method really works to help pupils in their reading difficulties. Students also demonstrated positive change of attitude towards learning the reading skills after being engaged in an active learning session. In conclusion, the words attack method has successfully help pupils overcome their reading difficulties.
