Abstract

There are several categories for people with disability which is physical, visual, hearing, learning disability, speech, mental and multiple disabilities. UITM has approved a policy regarding student with disability based on 5 principles which are inclusivity, accessibility, equity, flexibility and equivalence. Web accessibility is a degree that the web is accessible to as many as possible user. There is no proper platform for disabled student to access information about disability in UiTM Shah Alam and lack of information consistency among the disabled students. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to identify user requirement, design and develop myAbility web portal for disabled student in UITM. In addition, this web portal provides informational content through the web portal and make the web portal accessible by student with disability. Target user of this web portal is disabled student in UITM Shah Alam. The language used in the web portal is English and the development of the web portal is until testing phase. PHP with Laravel framework and mySQL are used as a software to develop the web portal. Disabled student be able to view important announcement, submit financial allowance request, hostel application assistance, use accessibility tools and chat with staff. Furthermore, this web application also allows disabled students able to access information just in one platform and directly communicate with staff. Based on the user testing results, the user stated that the text alteration function and contrast are properly function as expected. Few improvements should be made which are adding more accessibility features as well as provide more services. Overall, there is no doubt that this web portal will be beneficial to disabled student. The methodology used to develop the system is the Web Development Life Cycle (WDLC) because it is an appropriate approach that can be used to quickly develop a web-based system in a structured manner. For future work, this project can be enhanced by developing the system for a mobile application platform (iOS and android).
