Abstract

Light Rail Transit (LRT) system in Kuala Lumpur is hope by many to reduce, if not solve, the acute congestion problem faced by Kuala Lumpur. A lot of people, especially those who involve in the construction of the LRT, believe or have positive thinking in it to be the catalyst in solving the traffic problem in Kuala Lumpur. In proposing to the government, ridership and revenue forecast were presented with figures that showed profit in millions even within six(6) months of operation by using the annualisation factor together with the estimated generated travel. Integration and efficiency of services are needed in order for the LRT to success. Facilities such as park-and-ride system, easy access to the station, curbs provision for kiss-and-ride system and sheltered walkways could attract the private vehicle owners to leave their automobiles at home and commute to work via LRT. Without proper services and facilities, LRT would be another version of rail bus or car pooling in the country.
