Abstract
Cancer is a leading cause of mortality around the world. Thus, more effective, and focused treatments and prevention strategies have been developed, one of which is through lectin-related studies. Thousands of scholarly papers on lectins in cancer research have been published, contributing to a greater knowledge of the biological processes related to cancer. However, the process of reading and extracting information from hundreds, perhaps thousands of articles could be a challenging process. Bibliometrics has become an important tool in the research world. The bibliometric study helps to explore the research productivity such as the growth trends, authorship pattern, and distribution of the publication in terms of the year, journals, keywords, affiliation, subject area and cooperation among authors. This study aims to examine the global research productivity and developmental trends in topic of lectin in cancer research using the bibliometric method. Data were extracted from the Scopus database, whereby a total of 1001 documents were retrieved until 2022 (7 April 2022). The result shows that there is an increased growth rate of lectin-cancer research literature over the years since 1983. Meanwhile, a total of 897 (81.32%) documents were multi-authored with a mean collaboration index of 2.87 authors per article. With 265 (20.87%) published documents, The United States of America (USA) is ranked top in productivity among all countries. Overall, the growing number of publications on the study of lectins in cancer research is an indicative of the relevance and interest to this topic.
