Abstract

Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) formerly known as Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (SESCO), was privatised in 2005. This company is responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in Sarawak. They also provides training and other related businesses in support ofits core operations. Currently, this company joins forces with other subsidiaries of Sarawak Energy to deliver efficient services and uninterrupted electrical supply to the people. In 1932, this comes out of the history of SESCO with the establishment of Sarawak Electricity Supply Company Limited. At that time, it was ruled by the Brooke Administration. This also in order to operate electricity supply across the state. Thus, the Electrical Section within the Public Works Department was set up in 1921 to take over the electricity supply for the public. Under the Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation Ordinance 1962, the Sarawak Electricity Co. Ltd. was dissolved. Later, they are created into a Corporation, known as Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (SESCO). Sarawak Enterprise Corporation Berhad bought over 45% stake of the Corporation from the Sarawak Government in 1996. SESCO was privatised in 2005. Then SESCO is known as Syarikat SESCO Berhad. However it was renamed in 2012 to change into "Sarawak Energy Berhad".
