Abstract
The present study proposed griseofulvin as the drug candidate because of its aqueous insolubility, where it is envisaged to study contact angle extensively as a parameter and to establish how different solubility enhancers such as Polyethylene glycols 1500,4000,6000 (PEGs 1500,4000,6000) incorporate hydrophilicity to a hydrophobic drug so to enhance the solubility. The effects of contact angle on the mixture of griseofulvin with PEG were investigated by using sessile drop method. The pellets containing the mixture of griseofulvin and PEGs are measured at ratio (10:0, 8:2, 7:3, 6:4, 5:5, 4:6, 3:7, 2:8) by weight. For griseofulvin alone, the contact angle was observed to be very high, 63.66°±1.57, supporting the fact that the drug is very hydrophobic. Upon incorporation of PEGs 1500, 4000 and 6000 the contact angle was decreased with different extent of intensity corresponding to the different PEGs respectively. If compared the presence of PEG 1500 significantly improved the wettability of griseofulvin as its presence can reduce the contact angle to the highest extent, means can better incorporate the hydrophilic property than that of the other two grades of PEGs. On the basis of this study, an extensive data on contact angle have been gathered, however, this finding has to be further validated with other related experimental findings.
