Abstract
In the early 1880s, the District Office was created in Bintulu and it was named The Fort Keppel, it was built on the site of the Bintulu Commemorative Monument today. At that time the District Office was the only government agency that included various government departments such as the Customs Department and the Forest Department, at that time also they had only 20 staff. Unfortunately, the Fort Keppel building was bombed by the Allied Air Force team at that time. In 1942, the first Bintulu District Officer has administered the Bintulu District after the Japanese forces surrendered. Mr. P.H. Buxton was the first Bintulu district officer and he was an Englishman. Now, the Bintulu District Office is located at ground floor of Bintulu Division Residential Complex. The Bintulu District Office has an administrative area of 7,204 square km and has a multi-racial and religious population. According to figures made in 2008, the Bintulu District has a population of 215,000 peoples and this figure is expected to increase. Bintulu District Office has been responsible for managing general administrative duties at the district level and also responsible to deal with Bintulu Division Resident to inform any incident occurring in the district to the high level like the State Secretary. In Bintulu District office, there are divided by three main jurisdictions, all of jurisdiction being led by an administration officer. The first jurisdictions is social services and events unit led by Mr. Shah Hazizul, this unit will conduct formal and informal events on behalf of the district offices as well as provide social services in Bintulu district. Next is administration and financial unit, the administration officer that be charge this unit is Madam Latifah Bt Pun. This unit was assigned to managing the administrative and financial matters in the office. The last jurisdiction is development unit that led by Madam Suzanna Indiat. For this unit it was responsible to handle the development in Bintulu district for example development of the infrastructure and development of people in the district.
