Abstract

This course will introduce student with the knowledge of Malay traditional Costumes and practice. The focus is mainly divided into 3 aspects: first is about the Malay historical background, factors that influence them and the process of developing Malay civilization. The second aspect is analyzing the Malay traditional costume in the form of silhouette, material, ornament, the way of wearing, decoration, symbolism and philosophy. The third aspect is the demonstration of the traditional methods of producing Malay Costumes by practical and theories from pattern making to finishing. Student also will be exposed to Malay and Islamic philosophy as inspiration in creating fashion design
