Empowering minds through gamification: UiTM-MRIQ collaborative project / Muhammad Aiman Abdul Halim, Nur Afiqah Ab. Latif and Farhana Shukor

On 12th and 13th May 2023, the English Language Club and Kelab Budi Penyayang of UiTM Cawangan Pulau Pinang (UiTMCPP) joined forces to organise a knowledge-sharing program at Maahad Riyadhil Quran (MRIQ) in Sungai Petani, Kedah. The event gathered 36 enthusiastic UiTMCPP students, including 15 dedicated facilitators. In addition, 20 aspiring young huffaz from MRIQ had participated in this programme. Four Akademi Pengajian Bahasa (APB) lecturers were also present to provide guidance and ensure smooth progression of the activities. The event kicked off with high spirits on the first day (Friday), where all students from UiTM and MRIQ engaged in ice-breaking sessions and exhilarating English language games. In the evening, the students worked together in preparation for a delightful barbeque and Aidil Fitri feast, which was attended by parents, local community and several top management of UiTMCPP and MRIQ. While male students stayed overnight at MRIQ, female participants returned to the campus by the end of the first day. Themed “Empowering Tahfiz Students through Gamification”, this ‘Madrasah Visit & Exchange of Knowledge 2.0’ programme aimed to foster English language skills among students and foster meaningful interactions with madrasah students using gamification techniques. Building on the success of two previous programmes—‘Madrasah Visit & Exchange of Knowledge 2022’ and ‘Gamification of English, Mathematics & Science 2022’—organized by the English Language Club and APB, this initiative integrated creative language games to enhance tahfiz students’ learning experience.
