Abstract
This course discusses the aspect of meanings included in the semantics and pragmatics fields. The semantics course introduces the formal analysis of meaning. It consists of general semantic theories and their correlations to pragmatic, semantic relationships between words and the relationship between form and meaning. The pragmatic course discusses the study of interpretations of utterances or meanings in various contexts. Students will be exposed to significant aspects in the study of pragmatics, namely deixis, speech act, cooperative principles, conversational implicature and presupposition
