ALS422 : Description of English / Academy of Language Studies

This is a course designed to enable students to build on and strengthen their foundation to achieve a higher level of grammatical accuracy in order to communicate effectively in professional and academic settings. The course focuses on creating awareness of grammar as a system that puts words into meaningful units. Students identify verb types, relate words, phrases and slots, explore verb and noun phrases, rearrange compound sentences, construct phrases and clauses and add modifiers to sentences in class activities rooted in contextual situations and through tree diagrams so that formal English grammar can be learnt in a more meaningful way.
