Abstract
Literature in English is intended to introduce TESL students to the basic elements of literature through the four genres: short story, novel, drama and poetry. This course will begin with poetry, and the skills used to analyze the genre will be transferred (where applicable) and expanded to the reading of short stories, drama and novel (focusing on theme, plot, point of view, character, setting, tone, and symbol). The materials are chosen to be both challenging and enjoyable, and the course is designed to prepare students for a minor in literature.
