EDM704 : Policy and educational planning - a comparison between east and west region / Faculty of Education

This course will focus on the various aspects of policy and planning in education with a special emphasis on leadership. It will include aspects such as policy formulation and administration, public policy, the philosophy and history of education system in Malaysia, public and private education, and planning in education. Effective educational leadership at any level requires knowledge of the concepts, information, and values found in the theories of policy, planning, and leadership. Henceforth this program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills of policy, planning and leadership with an emphasis of the current educational scenario in Malaysia and the world at large. Besides that the program is designed to provide students with skills and knowledge to make effective decisions, to manage organizations, and to motivate and lead people so that institutional and personal goals are met, and students are prepared intellectually, personally, and professionally to provide service to diverse communities through productive educational work. In order to accommodate all these the program has been tailored to develop the potential in each student while striking a balance between theories with an emphasis on policy, educational planning, leadership, and reflective practice necessary to guide, influence, and shape institutions at all levels of education.
